Recruiting Food Trucks to Bring Lunch Just One Innovation Keeping Employees Satisfied and Productive

HBJ-best-places-work.jpgHOUSTON, October 22, 2013The Aldridge Company, a leading provider, consultant and integrator of information technology and cloud computing solutions for growing and mid-sized businesses, continues to be listed among the best places to work in Houston. This is the second consecutive year that the Houston Business Journal has recognized The Aldridge Company employee-focused culture, based on the results of a month-long employee engagement audit.

Participating in an anonymous companywide online survey, The Aldridge Company’s employees evaluated the company in areas such as goals, leadership, communication, support, advancement opportunity, skill development, recognition, compensation, flexibility, tolerance and innovation. The Aldridge Company was among a select group of companies to score 85 or better out of 100 points.

"What makes this award particularly special is that it is the result of employee feedback, which indicates we are on the right track,” said Patrick R. Wiley, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Aldridge Company. “We devote considerable energy to fostering a positive work environment because it helps us to attract and retain a deep team of highly trained and knowledgeable technology experts who can be trusted to simplify their company’s IT function.”

An example of The Aldridge Company’s employee-focused attitude is how it approached the daily exodus at lunchtime. Recognizing the lack of nearby lunch spots and snarled traffic in the area surrounding its Uptown Houston headquarters, The Aldridge Company invited food trucks to set up shop in the parking lot. It has become an instant tradition that plays out daily.

“People can enjoy a longer lunch break since they don't have to drive or they can have a quality working lunch if they prefer,” said Vice President Mark Leary. “It's a big source of pride for the staff that the trucks are here because of our effort. Our staff considers it a unique reflection of the people who work here.”

The Houston Business Journal has been conducting employee engagement audits of Houston-area businesses for more than 10 years. The goal has been to showcase companies that emphasize establishing competitive employee compensation plans, embrace tolerance and flexibility, and support innovation and ideas. The Houston Business Journal award also reward companies that offer advancement opportunities and skill development, as well as the overall quality of communication, support, and goal setting at individual organizations.

The companies on the Houston Business Journal's Best Places to Work list were announced Friday, September 6th, at the Houston Business Journal’s annual Fast 100 awards event at the Hilton Americas Hotel, which drew more than 600 people.
