HOUSTON, Jan. 28, 2008 – The Houston Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Houston Bar Association, recently recognized Rafte & Company (www.rafte.com) for its pro bono work on behalf of the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program (HVLP). Rafte & Company is a leading and proven provider of strategic technology consulting services, legal software solutions, and information technology (IT) network design, implementation, and management services.

HVLP helps Houstonians in need receive legal advice that would otherwise be financially out-of-reach. Rafte & Company donated its services to stabilize HVLP’s IT infrastructure, roll out a significant technology upgrade, and provide legal and productivity software training. The initiative has contributed to greater network reliability, reduced downtime and increased productivity.

“Rafte & Company’s expertise in strategic technology consulting has been invaluable in keeping the volunteer lawyers connected to their data and to our Houston communities,” said Karl Stern, chairman of the Houston Bar Foundation. “Today, HVLP is fully leveraging its technology assets to make a greater, positive impact on the community because of the contributions of Rafte & Company.”

Rafte & Company was recognized during the Houston Bar Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Annual Meeting and Luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel. Rafte & Company is the only service provider that was recognized.

“The fact that this honor comes during our own 25th anniversary year makes it all the more gratifying.” said Dena Rafte, founder and president of Rafte & Company. “Reliable and accessible technology serves as the backbone of every legal enterprise, and for highly complex organizations such as HVLP, which responds to 30,000 requests for assistance each year, technology is especially important.  Knowing that our expertise is benefiting Houstonians in need is very heartwarming.”

The Houston Bar Foundation was established in 1982 to support programs that help to provide legal representation to the indigent, promote community understanding of the legal system and foster the administration of justice. HVLP is among the programs supported by the Foundation. It links qualified applicants with 4,000 Harris County attorneys who volunteer their time on a pro bono basis.
