HOUSTON, February 14, 2005 - When Dean Carpenter mowed his first lawn a generation ago, he never imagined he was embarking on an entrepreneurial journey that would touch the lives of virtually every Houstonian. This week, his company, Houston Landscapes Unlimited, celebrated its 22nd year of business.

Today Houston Landscapes Unlimited boasts more than 131 employees and 24 trucks that are dispatched to tend to the beautification needs of 175 commercial and residential properties throughout the Houston metropolitan area. Even so, Carpenter and his employees remain focused on delivering highly personalized service.

"I am proud that this is a company built on the simple concept that it is our job to sweat the small stuff," said Carpenter. "We’ve seen a lot of changes in 22 years, but best of all is that the community has begun to really appreciate the positive impact of landscaping and beautification efforts in improving the Houston area’s livability," said Carpenter.

According to the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association, the Houston area continues to be among the strongest landscaping markets, with total landscape sales of more than $660 million in 2002, the most recent year for which data is available.
