Saint Arnold Brewing Company Releases Bishop’s Barrel No. 4 Today

Weizenbock with cocoa nibs aged for one year in oak bourbon barrels available in pubs and restaurants

HOUSTON, August 12, 2013 – Saint Arnold Brewing Co. (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, is releasing Bishop’s Barrel No. 4 today. The latest offering of Saint Arnold’s small batch barrel aged series of beers, Bishop’s Barrel No. 4 is a weizenbock aged in bourbon barrels from Woodford Reserve with cocoa nibs from Tejas Chocolate.

Saint Arnold Bishop’s Barrel is a series of beers that have been aged in barrels specifically chosen to enhance and complement the characteristics of the underlying beers. Each batch of Bishop’s Barrel is distinguished by the number on the neck label. Saint Arnold Bishop’s Barrel No. 4 is the first weizenbock in the series. Because of the small amount of beer produced from the barrels, it will only be available in pubs and restaurants throughout Texas and Louisiana.

“This beer is delicious, with notes of bourbon, chocolate and banana in this beer, almost like a banana split made with chocolate ice cream,” said Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner. “During the aging process, we found that much of the weizen yeast character had diminished in the barrels, so we countered that by creating a blend of 90 percent barrel-aged weizenbock with 10 percent fresh weizenbock.”

Specifications of Bishop’s Barrel No. 4:

Style: Bourbon Barrel Weizenbock with Cocoa Nibs
Original Gravity: 1.073
Final Gravity: 1.013
Alcohol: 7.9% ABV prior to barreling
            9.9% ABV after barreling

As a special added bonus, Saint Arnold plans to release Saint Arnold Weizenbock – the fresh unblended beer used in Bishop’s Barrel No. 4. Starting today, Saint Arnold Weizenbock will be available on draft only in pubs and restaurants throughout Texas and Louisiana.

The weizenbock is a strong, malty, fruity, wheat-based ale that combines the best flavors of a dunkelweizen with the rich strength and body of a bock. It is lightly-hopped, which allows the character of the yeast and malt to shine.
