Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) Taps Schipul – The Web Marketing Company to Improve Website

NEW YORK, January 24, 2011 – The Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) has launched a newly upgraded website, www.metro.org, designed by Schipul – The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com). Powered by Tendenci® Online Management Software (www.tendenci.com), the redesigned website makes it easier than ever for librarians, archivists and others to access METRO’s programs and services.

METRO is a non-profit organization working to develop and maintain essential library services throughout New York City and Westchester County. METRO’s website brings the library community together, enabling members to access programs and services, and share opinions and information. With Tendenci, METRO has streamlined the registration process for workshops and events with one-step login. The new website also integrates more effectively with the various online communities in which METRO is active, such as Twitter, and LinkedIn.

“As the largest reference and research resources library council in New York State, we have a big responsibility to keep the community updated and facilitate the sharing of information, and the website plays an important role,” said Dottie Hiebing, executive director with METRO. “Schipul did an excellent job of incorporating the input and feedback from our library industry colleagues to vastly improve the online experience.”

METRO chose Schipul for its Tendenci® solution after an extensive digital strategy audit conducted with Tim Bourgeois and Dave Polcaro at East Coast Catalyst (www.eastcoastcatalyst.com/). With Tendenci’s easy-to-use content management system (CMS), METRO’s staff can add and edit content without going through a third party. News announcements and grant opportunities can be posted quickly and easily, ensuring visitors always have the latest information. And keeping METRO’s Job Bank up-to-date will be easier, which means the 100,000 online visitors the Job Bank gets each year get accurate and timely information.

Tendenci also automates some otherwise time consuming tasks. For instance, members can add and update their information in the Member Directory and can post resumes to METRO’s online Resume Bank themselves. Tendenci also enables site users to subscribe to be alerted to updates through the integrated Really Simple Syndication (RSS).
