Saint Arnold Beers Take Gold and Silver at World Beer Cup

HOUSTON, April 22, 2008 - The reputation of Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, continues to grow here in the Lone Star State and internationally. Representatives of Saint Arnold Brewing were among brewers from five continents who earned awards from an elite international panel of judges in the 2008 Brewers Association World Beer Cup.

The seventh bi-annual competition, often called the Olympics of beer competitions, awarded medals to brewers from 21 countries ranging from Australia and Italy to Bolivia and Japan. Saint Arnold was among the 644 breweries from 58 countries and 45 U.S. states that vied for awards. A total of 2,864 beers were entered in 91 beer style categories.

Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No. 4, a Wee Heavy that was available for a limited time as part of the brewery's series of single batch beers, won gold in the Strong Scotch Ale category. Saint Arnold Elissa IPA, which debuted as a year-round beer in 2004, won a silver medal in the International Pale Ale category. This is the first competition win for both Divine Reserve and Elissa IPA.

"We are in this business because of our passion for the art of brewing craft beer, so it's great that the judges appreciate the care that goes into the beers we entered," said Brock Wagner, founder of Saint Arnold Brewing. "The Divine Reserves and Elissa IPA have been among my favorites since we introduced them, so it's great to have such an affirmation from a distinguished panel of international brewers and beer professionals."

Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No. 6, an American Barleywine, will be the next incarnation of the small batch series of big beers from the Houston brewery. It is being brewed this week and is expected to hit stores in June.

The awards come during a period of rapid growth for the brewery, which is again expanding production capacity with the installation of two new fermenters to keep up with booming demand.
