SAINT ARNOLD BREWING COMPANY CHALLENGES HOME BREWERS IN BIGGEST SINGLE-STYLE BREWING COMPETITION

Brewers in Garages and Basements Bubbling with Excitement as
Tenth Annual Big Batch Brew Bash Draws Near

HOUSTON, Feb. 14, 2005 – The call is out to would-be beer moguls: start brewing. Saint Arnold Brewing Company, the oldest microbrewery in Texas is returning to its home brewing roots to support the 10th Annual Big Batch Brew Bash. This year, contestants will submit their best Brown or Robust Porter for judging.

Sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association and organized by the Kuykendahl Gran Brewers, the 10th Annual Big Batch Brew Bash is the biggest single style brewing competition in America. In addition to Saint Arnold Brewing, supporters include The Brew Stop and DeFalco’s Home Wine & Beer Supplies.

The winner will enjoy a home brewer’s fantasy, joining the crew at Saint Arnold Brewing as “Brewer For A Day” to assist in brewing a big batch of one of their award-winning beers.

“It might sound weird, but for a brewing aficionado, doing stuff like mashing, pouring hops into the kettle, cleaning up and sampling is as good as it gets,” said Saint Arnold founder Brock Wagner. “We are proud to continue our support of the Big Batch Brew Bash because it builds an appreciation of the craftsmanship involved in brewing beer that tastes good.”

If an entry is good enough, it could even wind up inspiring a Saint Arnold creation. One year’s winning entry served as the basis for Saint Arnold Winter Stout, one of the brewery’s five seasonal offerings.

Home brewing is close to Wagner’s heart. When he was a student at Rice University, Wagner found an outlet for his passion for beer by brewing in his dorm room. Nearly 11 years ago, after a stint in investment banking, he channeled that passion into Saint Arnold Brewing Company.

Entering the 10th Annual Big Batch Brew Bash is free, but restricted to those 21 or older. The entry deadline is May 27, 2005. Each entry must consist of three bottles along with a completed recipe form. Recipe forms are available at www.thekgb.org or by calling 281-397-9411.
