This Saturday: Hundreds Expected to Tour Saint Arnold Brewing As Part of American Craft Beer Week

MEDIA ADVISORY

What: Hundreds of beer enthusiasts as well as those who are simply curious about the beer making process are expected to converge on Saint Arnold Brewing Company Saturday afternoon. Saint Arnold, the oldest craft brewery in Texas, will celebrate American Craft Beer Week by opening its doors to the community to explain how flavorful, quality beer is made. The theme of American Craft Beer Week is, “Visit your local craft brewery,” and it will highlight America’s nearly 1,400 craft breweries and the skilled craftsmen who operate them.

Who: Saint Arnold Brewing Company’s open house and tour will be led by Brock Wagner, the brewery’s founder who still serves as brewmaster. Wagner will give a brief history of beer, tell how he started Saint Arnold Brewing nearly 12 years ago and describe what goes into brewing Saint Arnold’s diverse collection of 11 year round and seasonal beers.

When: The open house and tour is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the brewery. Admission is $5 for all people over 21, which includes a souvenir tasting glass. American Craft Beer Week runs May 15 through 21.

Where: Saint Arnold Brewing Company is located at 2522 Fairway Park Drive.

From West 610 Loop: Exit 290 at Antoine/34th Street. Make a U-turn under the freeway and take the feeder road southeast for 1/4 mile. Then turn right on Mitchelldale. Take the second left onto Fairway Park Drive. The brewery is 150 yards down Fairway Park Drive on the left.

From 290 coming in toward town: Exit 290 at Antoine/34th Street. Follow the feeder road ¼ mile past 34th Street and turn right on Mitchelldale. Take the second left onto Fairway Park Drive. The brewery is 150 yards down Fairway Park Drive on the left.

Why: Most people don’t realize all that goes into making great beer, so this is a great opportunity to share the art and science of brewing with beer lovers from across Texas in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Attendees are encouraged to support the brewery’s recycling efforts by returning Saint Arnold’s 6-pack holders. The brewery actually repurchases these carriers. Those who bring 10 Saint Arnold carriers will receive a pint glass, 20 carriers are rewarded with a pilsner glass, a Good Samaritan with 50 carriers will receive a mug or T-shirt and anyone with 100 gets a tie-dyed T-shirt. In fact, Wagner is such a big believer in recycling that he has offered his prized tie-dyed 1957 Bentley to anyone who returns 200,000 Saint Arnold carriers.
