St. Patrick’s Donegal Beard Contestants Prepare to “Face Off” -- Literally

What:                The best St. Patrick’s Day photo op in Houston is the city’s hottest St. Patrick’s Day ticket: Saint Arnold Brewing Company’s annual Saint Patrick’s Day Party. Saint Arnold is the oldest craft brewery in Texas. The event at Saint Arnold’s new brewery on the northern fringe of downtown Houston sold out in just a few hours.

The event will feature a terrific photo op: the finale of the 10-week St. Patrick’s Donegal Beard Contest. In previous years, the finalists faced off in jaw dropping competitions to see whose Donegal beard could absorb the most beer or carry the most clothespins.

Where:              Saint Arnold Brewing Company, 2000 Lyons Avenue, Houston, Texas 77020.

When:                6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010. The St. Patrick’s Donegal Beard Contest judging will begin shortly after 7:00 p.m.

Who:                  Brock Wagner, founder and brewer of Saint Arnold Brewing Company, will be available for interviews.

Also, the two dozen entrants in the annual Saint Arnold Donegal Contest will give the event an air of Irish authenticity. Each entrant was cleanly shaven on January 1, 2010 and have since let their face follicles fly. Whose Donegal beard will be judged as Houston’s best?

Also, the Donegal beard judges, including Edward Sanchez, makeup artist to the stars, Joy Sewing, fashion editor at The Houston Chronicle, Owen Conflenti, morning anchor on KPRC Local 2, Jorge Vargas, sports director at Channel 39, Steven Lopez, gold medalist in Tae Kwon Do at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, and Mike Sinclair, last year's winner.

Also: A sold-out crowd of St. Patrick’s Day revelers and craft beer enthusiasts.
