HOUSTON, January 24, 2005 - Spring is already in the air at Saint Arnold Brewing Company where the annual batch of Saint Arnold Spring Bock is being bottled and shipped. The 2005 supply from the oldest microbrewery in Texas will arrive on store shelves and on tap across Texas on January 27.

Saint Arnold Spring Bock is an authentic, German-style Bock that has been aged to create a rich, sweet complex malt flavor. Five different types of malt are used, including 2-row pale malt from Germany, as well as specialty malts from Belgium. A light addition of German hops balances the malt flavor. It is a dark, strong, deeply flavored lager with seven percent alcohol by volume.

Saint Arnold Brewing only uses malted barley. It does not use other grains or cereals, such as corn or rice.

“The aging process makes brewing Saint Arnold Spring Bock an act of love and patience - not all that much different from waiting for Spring to arrive,” said Brock Wagner, founder of Saint Arnold Brewing Company. “Knowing that Texans have a special affinity for Bock beer, we are always excited about the enthusiastic response to our good-tasting, full flavored version of the style.”

The Bock style of beer originated in the Northern German city of Einbeck in the 1500s. Later, the beer was recreated in Munich and named after the city that inspired it. Spring Bock was introduced into Saint Arnold Brewing’s rotation of seasonal brews in 1998.

This year’s batch of Saint Arnold Spring Bock is bigger than ever, with 350 barrels, which translates to 4,800 cases, being produced and shipped. Beginning January 27, 2005, Saint Arnold Spring Bock will be available on tap and in 12-ounce bottles sold in six-packs and cases. It will be available throughout Texas at grocery and liquor stores, bars and restaurants.

Saint Arnold Spring Bock was recognized with the Silver Medal at the 1998 World Beer Cup in the Traditional Bock category.
