Oldest Microbrewery In Texas To Enter Nine Beers In Biggest Ever Great American Beer Festival

HOUSTON, September 22, 2004 – The staff of Saint Arnold Brewing Company, the oldest microbrewery in Texas, is limbering up for the year’s biggest brewing competition. Saint Arnold will enter nine beers in the Association of Brewers’ 2004 Great American Beer Festival (GABF).

This year’s GABF, the 23rd annual competition of brewers from around the nation, will run from Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. The Saint Arnold entries will be among 1,600 of the nation’s best beers from 320 American breweries. It will be the largest array of beers ever at the GABF, and the biggest selection of beers ever gathered together on the globe.

“The Great American Beer Festival is the Super Bowl and the All Star Game of beer,” said Brock Wagner, founder of Saint Arnold Brewing Company. “As a beer lover, I am looking forward to sampling the best beer selection on earth.”

Wagner, who established Saint Arnold Brewing Company 10 years ago and has guided its steady rise to become a beloved Texas brand, will serve as a judge in this year’s competition.

Saint Arnold will enter the following beers in the 2004 GABF: Saint Arnold Amber Ale, Saint Arnold Brown Ale, Saint Arnold Kristall Weizen, Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer, Saint Arnold Elissa IPA, Saint Arnold Summer Pils, Saint Arnold Oktoberfest, Saint Arnold Christmas Ale and Saint Arnold Winter Stout.

“No country has a greater variety of beer styles than the United States,” says Paul Gatza, director of the Association of Brewers. “The record-setting beer list at this year’s GABF makes it the ultimate event for the world’s beer lovers.”

Visitors to the GABF enjoy one-ounce beer samples from the event’s breweries. These breweries are arranged on the festival floor by regions of the country, giving beer lovers a walking tour of the nation’s beer-blessed landscape. The brewers themselves staff many of the booths. More than 23,000 beer enthusiasts from across the country and around the world attended last year’s GABF.
