Saint Arnold Brewing Company's Latest Icon Blue is a Sessionable Porter

Brewery's first Porter honors style's 18th century roots, delivers distinctive sweetness

(www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, is rolling out Saint Arnold Icon Blue, a Brown Porter, throughout Texas and Louisiana. Saint Arnold Icon is a line of rotating beers that complement the brewery's year-round and seasonal offerings. Starting this week, it will begin showing up in 4-packs of 12 ounce bottles and on tap in pubs and restaurants as supplies of Icon Red are depleted.

Saint Arnold Icon Blue is the first porter released by the brewery. The style originated in London in the 18th century and is named for the transportation workers among whom the style was popular. Brown Porter can be distinguished from other Porters by its flavors, which tend to be softer and sweeter with more caramel notes.

"In honor of the style's roots, we used English malt and hops along with our Saint Arnold yeast that comes from a brewery in England," said Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner. "Saint Arnold Icon Blue is a sessionable dark, medium bodied ale with rich chocolate malt notes and a distinct sweetness coming through as the beer warms up."

  • Alcohol: 5.1% ABV
  • Bitterness: 27. IBU

 

A new Saint Arnold Icon beer is released every three months or so, depending on how quickly supplies are exhausted. This beer is referred to as Saint Arnold Icon Blue because of its striking metallic blue and black label.

Meanwhile, Saint Arnold also announced plans to sell bottles of Saint Arnold Bishop's Barrel No. 6 during Pub Night at the brewery this Friday, March 7th for on premise consumption. Saint Arnold Bishop's Barrel No. 6 is an imperial pumpkin stout that spent nine months aging in oak barrels that previously were used by Appleton Estate to age its rums for 21 to 30 years. The Saint Arnold Tour Hall will open Friday at 5 p.m.
