Saint Arnold Brewing Opens Doors to Celebrate American Craft Beer Week
HOUSTON, May 9, 2006 – Saint Arnold Brewing Company, the oldest craft brewery in Texas, will celebrate American Craft Beer Week by opening its doors to the community to explain how flavorful, quality beer is made. The open house and tour is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the brewery at 2522 Fairway Park Drive in Northwest Houston. Admission is $5 for all people over 21, which includes a souvenir tasting glass.
The theme of American Craft Beer Week, which runs May 15 through 21, will be, “Visit your local craft brewery.” It will highlight the fact that America’s nearly 1,400 craft breweries are home to skilled craftsmen who are part of virtually every U.S. community.
Saint Arnold Brewing Company’s open house and tour will be led by Brock Wagner, the brewery’s founder. Wagner will give a brief history of beer, tell how he started Saint Arnold Brewing nearly 12 years ago and describe what goes into brewing Saint Arnold’s diverse collection of 11 year round and seasonal beers.
“Most people don’t realize all that goes into making great beer, so we are looking forward to this opportunity to share the art and science of brewing with our Houston neighbors and beer lovers from across Texas,” said Wagner.
Attendees also are encouraged to support the brewery’s recycling efforts by returning Saint Arnold’s 6-pack holders. The brewery actually repurchases these carriers. Those who bring 10 Saint Arnold carriers will receive a pint glass, 20 carriers are rewarded with a pilsner glass, a Good Samaritan with 50 carriers will receive a mug or T-shirt and anyone with 100 gets a tie-dyed T-shirt.
In fact, Wagner is such a big believer in recycling that he has offered his prized tie-dyed 1957 Bentley to anyone who returns 200,000 Saint Arnold carriers.
