DPK Public Relations President To Present “How to Manage Crises Smarter” In Fort Worth

Daniel Keeney, APR to be joined by NASA representative for seminar sponsored by Greater Fort Worth Chapter of PRSA

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, Sept. 21, 2005
– Daniel Keeney, APR, president of DPK Public Relations, a leader in crisis communications planning and recovery, will lead, “How to Manage Crises Smarter,” a half-day seminar sponsored by the Greater Fort Worth Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The seminar is for business leaders and communicators throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

The half-day seminar is scheduled Oct. 12, at the Fort Worth Petroleum Club, 777 Main Street in Fort Worth.

Keeney’s interactive presentation will focus on the following:

  • The fundamentals of crisis communications planning;
  • How to assess an organization’s vulnerabilities;
  • Lessons from Hurricane Katrina: why it is critical to maintain alternate forms of communication;
  • Testing messages in a crisis; and
  • The ticking clock – how to prepare and deliver the initial statement.

“Hopefully, the devastation of Hurricane Katrina served as a wake-up call for businesses throughout the DFW Metroplex – and across America – that natural or manmade disaster can indeed happen to them,” Keeney said. “This seminar is designed to give business leaders and communicators a realistic idea of what it’s like to be thrust into crisis, making split-second decisions and getting in front of the cameras to address the community.”

Keeney has arranged for Daniel Carpenter, deputy chief of staff of NASA – Johnson Space Center, to serve as luncheon speaker. Carpenter will discuss the importance of leadership and organizational strategy in crisis preparedness and response. Specifically, Carpenter will detail the role big-picture thinking played in NASA’s response to the Columbia disaster.

“How to Manage Crises Smarter,” will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 12. To register, e-mail rsvp@fortworthprsa.org
