Description

Metaphor is a communication workhorse. Human beings learn through metaphor, comprehending new information by comparing it to something they already know. That turns metaphors, analogies and other comparisons into powerful tools for helping audience members understand new, difficult or complex information. In this session, we’ll explore how you can take advantage of the benefits of metaphor. Specifically, we’ll look at how to:

  • Take the "numb" out of numbers: Develop analogies that help your audience members understand your statistics.
  • Make complex ideas easier to comprehend through comparison.
  • Cut the clichés out of your copy with a creative substitute.
  • Get an analogy in an interview with one simple question.
  • Use a four-step process for developing a creative metaphor.
  • Write a fascinating metaphor easily with a simple, fill-in-the-blanks formula.
